Dear Doubt,

I know that you want me to believe that I am not smart enough, ready, or able to handle where God has placed me. However, I’m writing to remind you of what you clearly forgot. I am a child of God. God created me with a purpose and it is God who orders my steps. God chose to place me where I am and God did so intentionally. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” How do I know? The Bible says it very clearly in Philippians 4:13. Also, God fully knows me (…my struggles, my strengths, etc.) and God still chose to place me where He placed me. Yes, imperfections and all.

Dear Millennials: You Are Not What I Expected

Dear Fellow Millennials,

At some point someone made a declaration that millennials are lazy, unorganized, self-absorbed, apathetic, and rarely take a moment to glance up from their phones.  The word spread that millennials also lack patience and lack respect for the traditions and values of previous generations.

News Flash: I don’t know who started such a vicious rumor, but it’s simply not true.  Such terms cannot define such a complex and diverse generation.  They do not define my generation.

Where Is My Break?

I wanted the breakthrough (i.e. that period of time after God brought me out of a tough season) to be easy.  Well, maybe not easy, but at least easier.  After all, the journey I just came out of wasn’t easy.  It was a difficult season and it lasted years.  When God brought me through it, I wanted to enter a period of “easiness” not because I was lazy, but because I felt I needed a break.  God gave me rest, but I wanted more.

Growth: Faith and Relationship Edition

There comes a point in your life when you stop trying to impress others with a fictitious version of yourself.  You realize that God has made you incredibly special just as you are.  You are not perfect, but no one is.  You are constantly growing, but so should everyone else.  We are all a work in progress.

What led me to this realization?  Life.  Experiences.  Time.

Breaking a Routine is Brave

Lately there has been a lot of change in my life and in the lives of many of the people I love.  The change is good change.  The change is a deviation from a routine.

A routine often brings a sense of comfort.  You know what is likely to happen and how to deal with it. There are minimal surprises, if any. There is just predictability and repetition.  Things may get boring, but at least you know what is coming.  (At least that is what a routine may lead you to believe.)

Priorities: God Predated Technology

Accidentally forgetting your phone one day can teach you so much about your priorities.  What you think you are going to do in a given day can easily be put on hold while you scramble to retrace your steps to find your phone.  You may or may not necessarily be concerned about missing texts, calls, or emails.  You just know that you always have your phone with you and right now you don’t have it.  Right now your phone is sitting somewhere that’s not with you.

Recently that was my life and my story.  I got to my destination and discovered that I didn’t have my phone with me.  In the midst of searching for my phone and trying to convince myself that I didn’t leave it behind, God flipped my perspective and reminded me that it was time to check my priorities.
